Located to the north of the island, with a surface area of 102,06 Km2, at an altitude of 546 mand a population of 134.744, it is just 9 Km by road from Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Thismunicipality totally surrounds that of Tegueste.

To the west it limits with Tacoronte, to the east with Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and to the southwest with El Rosario. Its wide northern coastline is mostly full of cliffs.
